for the love of color

Why we love color and five ways to add it to your big day

If you’re paying attention to anything in the design or fashion world you’re probably already aware that this year is all about color. Weddings are no different and it has been fun to watch the wonderful world of neutrals get a little makeover.

You will get no argument out of us that black, white, cream, and blush are as beautiful as they are timeless. There will simply always be a place for these classic pallets, especially in a nearly all white venue like Gordon Green. And while we will always welcome the aesthetic white linens, candles, and greenery creates - it has been a fun and invigorating challenge to begin thinking and dreaming in color. If you are asking yourself: can color really be elegant? I am here to tell you: absolutely yes. There are ways to create a trending pallet without being trendy. As long as you introduce color in a way that is true to you and your partner, I am confident you will look back on photos for years to come and be so glad you planned a day that felt uniquely like you.

Here are five ways to bring color into your day - from a big and bold disco party to a spring afternoon dipped in subtle shades of blue that make you feel like you are floating away at sea - we are pretty certain these takes on color are going to give you plenty to think about.

No. 1 | Invitations

Invitations set the tone for your entire day and this Disco Jungle made sure everyone knew they were attending a party. If you’re ready to go big and let color lead the way, invitations are a fun start.

No. 2 | Candles

For the couple looking for something a little more understated, but not totally without color candles are an excellent addition. Candles are an easy, inexpensive way to add pops of colors without having to commit too much of your overall aesthetic to the cause. The head table, sweetheart table, bar, or dessert table are great places to add some colored candles that will add a bit of personality to your special day without going overboard.

No. 3 | Linens

Everyone knows you can’t go wrong white or black tablecloths but linens can be a really fun way to add some color and personality to your event. Even if you don’t want to commit to color or pattern on every single dinner table you can opt for something fun on your cocktail tables or dessert table for a little pop where people least expect it.

No. 4 | Tableware

Glassware, chargers, and napkins can be really unique ways to add some color to an otherwise pretty neutral space. Keep in mind that your plated food and centerpieces will provide color so be sure to pull colors you are already using to add depth and dimension without going overboard.
